Today’s post includes a couple of recordings of Coyotes in action in Plano, Texas. The first is a picture of an otherwise healthy looking Coyote with a nasty looking wound on its right front leg.

This otherwise healthy looking Coyote has a fairly nasty looking wound on its right front leg.

Below is a short video of a Coyote who is most like engaged in play activity with an unseen companion. It is also possible that this Coyote has been recorded pursuing a prey animal of some kind.

  1. I found your blog extremely educating! Havent seen a coyote in the wild yet but heard them when we were visiting my husbands brother in Indiana. My aunt has them in her “back yard” in the state of Washington. She said many a cat disappear if not brought in at night 🙁

I was wondering if you could help me; would love to learn how to display “the nasty looking wound”. What program do you use? thanks

  2. I saw a coyote walking across a field behind my home in Fort Worth. Location is northeast of the intersection of I20 and 820, west side of Lake Arlington,Texas. It was bigger than my pitbull/boxer mix dog of 60lbs. The ice and temperatures of 27 degrees today Sunday December 8,2013, doesn’t seem to bother it. I heard howling of 2-3 coyotes in the past 3 months or so. This is the first time I have ever seen one, being from New York state.

    1. Hi Tracey, Thanks for the report. As you may have gathered from this web site we have a LOT of Coyotes in the Dallas area. They are generally pretty good at staying out of sight, but a change in the weather, like this weekend’s ice storm, will sometimes bring them out during the day. People are inside trying to stay warm, and with fewer people about the Coyote probably felt more comfortable being active during daylight hours. Dallas Coyotes usually top out at around 45lbs or so. A 60lb+ Coyote would really be a monster down here. They do put on a thick winter coat that will exaggerate their apparent size. The pictures in this article are of Coyotes in their barely-there summer coats. They will give you a much more accurate representation of a Coyote’s true size:
