This was a cool observation. First, I noticed a male American Kestrel coming in for a landing on top of this utility pole. He had a freshly captured mouse in his talons and was looking self-assured. Then I heard the angry scolding of a nearby Western Kingbird who clearly objected to the kestrel’s arrival. The bold kingbird zoomed in for an attack. It took only two passes for the kestrel to be successfully driven away!
