This is another first for me. I have never photographed a Painted Bunting before. In fact, I have never even had more than just a fleeting glimpse of one in the past.
The Painted Bunting is a strikingly colorful bird. Red, green, blue, yellow, purple. All the colors of the rainbow are present. The bird would make a perfect logo for Google.
Surprisingly, the bird’s flashy coloration is not that noticeable in the low light of early morning. I wasn’t quite sure if I had caught a flash of red when this pretty fellow zoomed by me until I did a double take.
This bird did not cooperate as much as I would have preferred, and he mostly kept his back turned to me. But, he was generally tolerate of my presence and proximity, and he was gracious enough to give me one profile shot before he flew away up and over the hill.
