Sometimes there is only the time and opportunity for a quick, “documentary” type photograph. That was the case when these high flying geese appeared over head one evening in October.
Their honking drew my attention, but I could tell right away that they were not—our very common—Canada Geese. These were clearly something else.
But they were high in the sky and silhouetted against the setting sun. I took a few quick pictures, expecting that it would take some post processing at home to reveal the bird’s true identity.
There only a few candidate geese species in North Texas at this time of year, and I had my suspicions about what kind these were. Sure enough, it took only a minor enlargement to show that these geese have the light colored beaks, orange feet, and under side coloration of the Greater White-fronted Goose!
