Well, here we go again—more Monk Parakeets, this time on a substation near the intersection of Royal and Marsh in Dallas, Texas.
Once again, I found this colony based on a tip I received from one of my readers. The bright green birds were frequently seen coming and going over her front yard. After identifying the general location, finding a likely electrical substation was not difficult!
When I first arrived there was very little parakeet activity going on. I spotted one intrepid parakeet keeping watch at his communal nest’s front entrance. The many other nests at this site appeared to be unoccupied.
Soon, however, a large group of parakeets returned to the substation and everything was quite raucous from that point on!

I saw a group of three in duncanville behind the costco grazing in the grass. Last year I saw a large group of 20-25 at the intersection where riverfront Ys into Irving blvd in Dallas.
I just saw a flock at Robbie and Conflans in Irving, TX. They were concentrated on a tree in West Park. Bright green and a distinctive call. – Sept 9 2014 : 9AM
Thank you for the tip!

I have seen a group for the last 3-4 years near my home in Crowley. There is an elementary school near bye and I always seem to see them flying near there. They’ve flown over my house on several occasions too.
I was mesmerized today by a colony of green parakeets in the 24 Hour Fitness parking lot at Royal and Central Expressway in Dallas. They were raising a noisy ruckus in a tree situated on the south side of the parking lot facing Royal and then enmasse they took off and flew west to a tree located in the Drive-Thru area of the McDonald’s fronting the service road of Central.
I’m on wheatland and Hampton at the chick-fil-a and seen about 10-15
I live off Knox on the Katy Trail and these birds live here too! I admire their birds calls and watching them build their stick homes in the towers. Gorgeous birds!
