We have several varieties of doves here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Two of them are illustrated in this article. On the left is the Eurasian Collared-dove—an invasive species that is rapidly expanding its range in the United States. The dove on the right is a White-winged Dove. This dove has also recently expanded its range into the metroplex, migrating up from the south. Ten years ago neither of these birds could be found in North Texas.

  1. Chris, that is an interesting White Winged Dove. At first, I thought it was just bedraggled, maybe from bathing and not yet smoothed out.resulting in the ragged appearance of the white stripe along the edge of the folded wing. But it also has some odd color tones. In general, it appears to have a clearer brown color than usual, and it has a gray stripe across the wing and back. Thanks for giving us a chance to see it.
