These Sad Underwing moths have remarkably effective camouflage. The flash from my camera defeated it to some degree, but in the murk under the tree canopy these moths became almost invisible against the tree trunks they had landed on. On several occasions I had to look over the camera’s view finder to make sure I really had the moths in frame.
I was walking through a dried stream bed when I found these moths. I encountered several of them along its length.
