We observed these Lesser Scaups at a popular local duck pond. In addition to the scaups, there are Mallards, American Coots, Domestic Ducks, and Geese at this location. All of these water fowl are well fed by the park’s human visitors, and even the most wild new arrivals quickly become accustomed to the regular feedings.
These wild scaups, while perhaps a little more cautious than some of the other species of ducks, were clearly anticipating being fed and readily followed us around the perimeter of the pond.
Those yellow eyes!
