This wildlife observations takes us out to Southlake, Texas for the very first time. Several weeks ago I received a report about this Great Blue Heron rookery from a concerned reader, and I decided to go out and have a look it for myself. The nesting site has been located in this tree near Big Bear Creek for a number of years now. But now some residential construction has begun nearby, and some folks are worried that the nesting might be interrupted as a result.
Fortunately, from the looks of things the herons are soldiering on without anxiety. The rookery is in a good spot and should continue on for many years, if given the proper deference, even after the new subdivision goes in.
Great post!
Is the rookery still active and how do we find the location?
