A mother Mallard and her nearly grown ducklings on a pond in McInnish Park in Carrollton, Texas. Duckling mortality can be high among Mallards. This mother duck has done an outstanding job protecting her brood and raising most of them to young adulthood—especially in this park which is adjacent to the Trinity River and essentially turned over to the resident wildlife every night.
