This observation is a follow up on an earlier post: Purple Martin – Garland Roost
Returning to the Purple Martin roost in Garland, Texas I found many, MANY more martins there than from just a few weeks ago. The birds are gathering at a movie theater and have recently relocated across the parking to a larger group of trees in order to better accommodate their increasing numbers. Estimates are that their are as many as 30 to 40 thousand martins at this locations. The shear number and density of birds in the air allows interested parties to use weather radar to monitor the roost’s coming and goings from the comfort of their own home.
