This is a flock of mostly Female Red-winged Blackbirds. There are a few adult males, first year juveniles, and the occasional Brown-headed Cowbird thrown in for good measure.
These birds flew in what appeared to be a grey cloud of birds, and began foraging in this meadow. But, the flock was excited and nervous for some reason, and they quickly moved away. One group of birds leap-frog the other as they incrementally increased the distance between us.
Finally, and for no apparent reason, the entire flock erupted skyward and headed off toward the marshy water in the valley below.
