I found this Predaceous Diving Beetle in the parking lot of the Eco Park facility in south Dallas, Texas. This Large individual(1.5in/38cm in length) was quite some distance from a water source. These beetle are known to fly on occasion, and like most bugs they are attracted to light sources. It is possible he was lured away from the water by the lighting installed around Eco Park.
