These Southern Plains Crayfish were found in a small pool of water next to Wolf Spring Road in far southeast Dallas County.
Their behavior was comical on this day. Several of these sub-adult specimens were observed crawling out of the water. Once on dry land, and at only a short distance from the water, the crayfish would flip their tails and spring themselves back into the pool. This activity was repeated several times while I watched, most probably by many different individual crayfish.
