Today marks the beginning of Butterfly Week at DFW Urban Wildlife.

We have noted an abundance of colorful butterflies this spring and have collected photographs of a number of them. We will use this opportunity to share many of these pictures with you, plus some older examples from our archives. Butterflies, moths, and caterpillars are all fair game this week. Here are just a few of the species you will see: Checkered Skipper, Eastern Tent Caterpillar, Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, Fiery Skipper, Gulf Fritillary, Little Yellow Butterfly, Pearl Crescent, Red Admiral, Salt Marsh Caterpillar, Tawny Emperor, etc, etc…

To begin with, we a have a short video taken along side the White Rock Creek Bike Trail in the Lake Highlands area of Dallas. This flowering Pyracantha is literally covered in fluttering butterflies—many from the list above.

So, tune in everyday for new pictures of your favorite butterflies! Regular features, such as the Black Vulture, Red-tailed Hawk, and Red-shouldered Hawk Nest Updates will continue uninterrupted as well!
