This Red-tailed Hawk was photographed just outside a window on the 43rd floor of the Fountain Place building in downtown Dallas. It is just one of many Red-tailed Hawks making their living in this urban center.
The hawk had landed on a small metal projection, which is possibly the only suitable perching location on this part of the glass covered building. The hawk’s repeated calls are what alerted the photographer to its presence.
Red-tailed Hawks do well in urban environments. An abundance of pigeons in and around downtown Dallas keep these hawks well fed.
