This is another first for me in the Great Trinity Forest. I have never seen Wood Storks in the wild before this day.

I was busy photographing Feral Hogs when I first saw the Wood Stork congregation. There are so many large, white wading birds at this location that I almost disregarded the sighting. At first, I thought they must be egrets of some kind. I’m glad I did a double take. Then, as I watched, another group of around 15 Wood Storks flew in from the east and joined the others.

The storks were several hundred yards/meters away from my position. Ironically, they were gathered around a spot where I had been just 15 or 20 minutes earlier. I quickly packed up and headed back where I had started my day. I believed, that if I were stealthy, I would have the opportunity to get very close to the birds. But, I was concerned about my ability to get a clear line of sight through the thick vegetation.

As it turned out, I was right on both counts. I was able to move in very close to the storks, but my view was largely obscured by vegetation and I was only able to get fleeting glimpses of the birds. In spite of this, I still managed a few photographs to share with you.
