We came across this Killdeer nest in a neighborhood park. The nest was on the ground, in a patch of gravel, and out in the open. The were three spotted eggs in the nest. The mother Killdeer was nearby, and voiced her displeasure about our presence.

We stepped away to give the female some room, and she quickly returned to the nest.

A week later we returned to the park, and found that the nest was gone—most likely the victim of a lawn mower.
