We found this small, juvenile Diamond-backed Water Snake lounging at the bottom of the clear water in Five Mile Creek. We quickly scooped him up in a seine net in order to have a closer look. You can see from the pictures below how small this little snake was. What he lacked in size, he more than made up for in spirit. He gave one of his handlers a nasty nip on the finger, and then the snake found a tear in the net he could wiggle through. Back into the water and back to freedom! Photographs courtesy Ben Sandifer
