These American Coots were observed at McInnish Park in Carrollton, Texas. The coots were going about their business in a small wetland area nestled in between the park and the Trinity River.
In one sequence of photographs, an American Coot can be seen struggling to consume aquatic vegetation of some kind. The coot manipulates what appears to be a root or tuber again and again before eventually having success feeding on it.
In another series of pictures the coots are seen swimming next to a family of Nutrias. The Nutrias are busy feeding on the reeds next to the water as the coots pass by. From the photographs, it looks like there is one adult Nutria, and three or four juveniles present.
In this picture a coot swims with one of the juvenile Nutrias.
