While hiking around the Village Creek Drying Beds in Arlington, Texas I came across this freshly dug burrow. The deep hole was stuffed full of soft grass, straw, and leaves. I immediately thought Armadillo, but I had never come across a den before that contained so much insulating dried vegetation.
I decided to set a camera trap to see if I could get some idea of just what was going on at this location. Three days later an adult Armadillo was recorded approaching the den and entering it.
I now believe it likely that this burrow either contains, or will soon contain, a litter of Armadillo pups.
