We have red-eared sliders here in our NYC parks, but they are not native as I believe they are in Texas. They’re released captives – or the descendants of released captives. I heard that when Central Park’s Turtle Pond was restored, the Parks Dept. made no distinction between native and non-native wildlife, and restored all the turtles to the pond – a good call, in this particular case, I think.
