NOTE: This observation is a continuation of a previous post. The earlier article can be found here: Red-tailed Hawk – Baylor Nest Update 12

This juvenile Red-tailed Hawk wants to fly. He’s trying to exercise his wings but there are too many branches above the nest to give him the room he needs. The young hawk even tried moving higher up in the tree to find room, but to no avail. He will need to develop the courage to move a little further from the nest to get the practice and exercise he needs. That day will come.

The dad hawk (identifiable by the missing feather at the tip of his right wing) must have been nearby. He showed up as we approached the nest and used the steadily blowing south wind to hover just above the treeline. He was obviously concerned about our proximity to the nest, so we left.
