Yellow-crowned Night Heron - Backyard Family

These pictures were provided to us by Jeannie Smith of Irving, Texas. Jeannie has a family of Yellow-crowned Night Herons living in an elm tree in her backyard. The birds were first observed in mid-July. Both adult and juvenile herons have been seen. The juvenile birds are just now beginning to fly. The photographs below

Armadillo - Early Morning Forage

The relatively cool weather and threatening rain really brought out the small mammals this weekend. This is an Armadillo observed foraging in a pasture near Old Alton Bridge Park in Denton County. Here is what Wikipedia has to say about Armadillos: The nine-banded armadillo (Dasypus novemcinctus), or the nine-banded, long-nosed armadillo, is a medium-sized mammal.
