Larvae

Many animals go through a distinct larval stage during their maturation. The larval forms often differ dramatically from the adult forms. A caterpillar is the larval form of a butterfly, for example. In many cases the larval form is given a common name that is different from that assigned to the adult form. In those cases, the unique larval name will be listed on this page, and it will link to the main article on the corresponding adult form of the animal.
