I found this foraging Striped Skunk near Old Alton Bridge. I frequently come across these guys along the margins of the woods in this area—especially early in the morning.

Skunks are supremely confident in their defensive equipment and are usually not too impressed when we meet face to face. These guys invariably stand their ground, leaving me to search out a detour.

Notice how the skunk’s tail is completely covered in small white burrs. He is unknowingly aiding plants in the dispersal of their seeds while he is busy searching for food.
