These are fledgling Snowy Egrets. They have just recently left the nest and are working developing the strength and skills they need to fly and become independent. On this afternoon, the young snowy egrets were shimming up and down vines hanging from the rookery’s trees. The had varying degrees of success, but each ascent and descent offered them a valuable opportunity to exercise their wings. Often a little wing-assist made the difference between reaching the top or falling to the ground.
