The Tricolored Herons at the UTSWMC rookery have had a rough time of things. Late arriving and aggressive birds like White Ibises forced many Tricolored Herons off of their active nests. At least three Tricolored Heron nests along the perimeter of the rookery were destroyed this way.

Fortunately, it appears as if at least some tricolors were able to breed successfully this year. Their nests are much easier to notice when there are three fledgling herons standing on adjacent branches demanding to be fed!
