Feral Donkeys near the Trinity River just north of Interstate 20. These donkeys were observed by a group of mountain bikers on a trail ride. The Donkeys are free ranging—there are no uncompromised fences surrounding this public land. The donkeys fled when approached.

This sighting took place inside Dallas city limits approximately 9 miles/14 kilometers south of downtown.

    1. Well, I don’t believe they have been there long, but there is no way to be certain. Where did they come from? People released them… Evidently donkey do not have much value these days: http://www.wfaa.com/home/Stray-donkeys-become-growing-problem-for-Dallas-County-133652543.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

They could have been released anywhere along the east side of the Trinity River for miles to the south, but people do keep livestock in the general area where these two were observed. I’d bet they are from close by.

  1. How do you know that they were not being herded there by someone who just wants to get grazing on the public dime? It is not uncommon for people to graze their animals on public property until they get called on it.

    1. No way to know for sure, David. My familiarity with the area and the article I linked in another comment swayed my opinion.
