This is an egg sack created by a Black and Yellow Garden Spider. It was found in Hidden Cove Park in The Colony, Texas.

The Black and Yellow Garden Spider is a big spider, and their egg sacks are correspondingly sized. This one was approximately 1.25in/3.1cm in length and 1in/2.4cm in width. The webbing supporting the egg sack was as yellow as it appears in these pictures, and I’m not sure why. My best guess is that the strands became pollen coated over the course of the fall season.

Hundreds of baby spider will emerge from this egg sack in the spring after the weather warms.
