A male American Kestrel photographed near the Baylor Medical Center in Carrollton, Texas. This small falcon—barely larger than a Blue Jay—was perched high on a power line surveying a nearby grassy field for prey. Likely targets for the kestrel would be grasshoppers, dragonflies, and maybe a field mouse if the bird was feeling ambitious!
