I encountered this Armadillo on the Cottonwood Trail in the Lake Lewisville Environmental Learning Area (LLELA). I was headed one way and he was headed the other, but he was so preoccupied with what he was doing that he did not detect my approach. I simply walked right up to him.

Armadillos, suffer from poor eyesight and hearing, and generally do not have great situational awareness. The relentless breeze on this day created a steady background noise that effectively muffled any noise I might make. As long as I stood relatively still, the Armadillo would never have any idea I was even there.

So, I got to standby for some 5 to 10 minutes and watch this Armadillo go about his business. His business, of course, was eating insects. The grasses here were loaded with large, yellow Differential Grasshoppers, and the Armadillo was feasting heartily!

Do you see the grasshopper leg?
