Your eyes are not fooling you. This wasp appears to be made of shiny blue metal.

Looking more like a creature from the Pokemon franchise than your average wasp, this Steel-blue Cricket Hunter was observed carefully combing this pile of straw in search of prey.

The wasp was relentless in her hunting, and she moved in and out of the straw pile repeatedly—sometimes disappearing from sight for several minutes. Unfortunately, the wasp did not have success while I watched.

This observation occurred near the FM2499 Bridge over Hickory Creek in Denton County.
