These pictures come to us from David Mimlitch. This kingfisher was photographed at Trammell Crow Park on a 100F/38C degree day in late July.
After arriving at the park, David found a good shady vantage point down by the river. Only a couple minutes after his arrival a Belted Kingfisher landed on a perch at least 50 yards/meters up river and on the opposite bank. The skittish kingfisher only stayed for 20 or 30 seconds before moving on.
