News – Pale Male’s Lima Gone

News account of the death of Lima. Lima was the mate of New York City’s famous Red-tailed Hawk, Pale Male.

It is suspected that Lima was killed from consuming a poisoned rat. Pale Male has lost other mates to the same misfortune. So far, Pale Male has avoided a similar fate, but how he continues to dodge that particular bullet is beyond me. Pale Male has been with us since 1990 and living in NYC for most of that time. He is 22 years old now. That is very, very old for a Red-tailed Hawk.

We were lucky enough to have seen Pale Male, Lima, and their offspring last summer while we were staying in Manhattan:
