This observation reminds me of a Bigfoot sighting; I only had a fleeting look at these Yellow-headed Blackbirds, my pictures are poor and out of focus, and I have never seen one of these birds since.

Yellow-headed Blackbirds are only in North Texas for a few weeks during their fall and spring migrations. I observed these birds in May of 2006 at Stewart Creek Park in The Colony. There were several individuals present at this location. They spent their time foraging for insects in the short grass next to the road.

  1. They are out in force right now at White Rock Lake in Dallas on the east side of the Lake– numerous males and probable females that I cannot confirm, as I have never seen these creatures in my life! I had to Google them to know what I had seen. Once I spotted the picture galery, there is no doubt. Makes me wish I’d had my camera, but I was just out to stretch my legs and have a short bike ride, and not particularly out for sight-seeing. This weekend would probably be good to catch a sighting.

    1. Outstanding! I will do my best to get out there and have a look. Beautiful birds, don’t you think? Thanks for the report!

  2. Yes, I saw these yesterday afternoon on east side of lake as well. several times between bath house and boathouse. so bright. very cool. not very big birds

  3. was there again today. i remembered a little wrong in my prior post. they were actually on the other side of the bath house. NOT between boat house and bath house, but yes between bath house and winfrey point. Much closer to bath house. Like around & after the first bench on that side. WRL marker 166L. Saw less of them today but could have been because i was there an hour earlier than usual.(6:30). Maybe they are out more closer to sunset, when i saw more yesterday it was around 7 to 7:30.
