I set up my scouting camera in the woods behind McInnish Sports and Recreation Park in Carrollton, and baited it with apples. Raccoons came through the night before and cleaned out most of the bait I had set out, but at least 2 apples were still there at the beginning of this series of photos.

This observation surprised me, because even though I understood that Coyotes are omnivorous, I did not expect that apples would be a good Coyote attractant.

The animal that triggered the camera in the last shot has returned in this picture and is just barely visible behind the brush in the middle just to the left of the two big trees. Can you identify the animal in this picture? Try comparing this picture to the previous one if you are having trouble locating it.

In this picture the Coyote emerges from behind the brush and cautiously approaches the apples.

The coyote in this picture quickly snatches one of the apples and carries it away to be eaten. This shot surprised me, because even though I understood that Coyotes are omnivorous, I did not expect that an apple would be a good Coyote attractant.

A few minutes later the Coyotes comes back for the second apple, and this time he eats it in plain view of the camera.

A couple of hours later another picture of a Coyote is taken. I wonder if this is the same Coyote that came through earlier looking for more food (wishful thinking on his part). Or, maybe it’s another animal following the scent for the first Coyote. This one looks slightly larger that the first to me.
