Just after dark I observed a large, adult Raccoon cautiously coming out of a storm drain. The drain was located on a residential street, and the Raccoon had to wait for two cars to pass before it could make its exit. Once out of the drain, the Raccoon ran across the street and disappeared into the bushes of a nearby house.

At home I researched the observation further. Reportedly, it is not uncommon for Raccoons to use storm sewage systems as kind of a subway. The underground networks of pipes allow Raccoon the ability to navigate neighborhoods sight unseen.
